Where Stillness Becomes Liberation

In the cool radiance of Shitalanatha lies a teaching as old as the cosmos and as fresh as morning light. He is the embodiment of śīlatā — the inner coolness that quenches the fire of karma and reveals the soul’s eternal nature.

01 · Sthitiprajñā

Inner Coolness

His very name means the one who is cool — cool of mind, cool of speech, cool toward joy and sorrow alike. Through him, the seeker tastes the temperature of liberation.

02 · Mokṣamārga

The Liberated Path

He attained the state of Siddha — pure consciousness free from karma, body and birth. His life is the living map from soul-bondage to absolute freedom.

03 · Ahimsā

Compassion as Conduct

Born to a king and raised in opulence, he chose renunciation, spreading the gospel of non-violence, truthfulness and detachment for all beings.

A Life of Light

Born of Royalty,
Crowned in Renunciation

The Tenth Tirthankara was born to King Dradhrath and Queen Nanda on the twelfth day of the dark fortnight of the auspicious month of Magha, in the city of Bhaddilpur. He belonged to the celebrated Ikshvaku dynasty — the same solar lineage from which many Tirthankaras have arisen.

His birth filled the realm with serene fragrance; the seasons softened, the rivers ran cool, and the suffering of beings, it is said, was lightened. His destined path was not the throne, but the asana of meditation that would liberate countless souls.

The Five Sacred Vows

Ahimsā

Non-violence in thought, speech and deed — the supreme vow that holds all virtues within its embrace.

Satya

Truth as the soul’s vibration — speaking, living and being only what is luminous and real.

Asteya

Non-stealing — honouring what is not freely given, in matter, time or recognition.

Brahmacharya

Spiritual discipline — mastery of the senses for clarity, restraint and inner radiance.

Aparigraha

Non-possessiveness — releasing the inner grip on objects, identities and outcomes, so that the soul may finally know itself, weightless and free.

The Cool Flame of Wisdom

Shitalanatha Bhagwan’s discourses (Samavasarana) drew gods, kings and creatures of the forest alike. He spoke of the soul’s native purity, the laws of karma, the ladder of right conduct, and the supreme freedom that awaits the one who is established in equanimity.

  • On KarmaEvery intention is a seed; every seed bears its season.
  • On the SelfThe soul is not the body, nor the mind, but the silent witness of both.
  • On LiberationFreedom is not earned — it is uncovered, when the dust of karma is wiped away.
